Introduction
Chinese-made lawn mowers have gained popularity for their quality and affordability. To make the most of your lawn mower, here are some essential operating tips.
Pre – operation Checks
Fuel and Oil
Before starting, check the fuel level. Use the recommended fuel type for your mower. Also, check the oil level. Low oil can cause engine damage. If the oil is low, add the appropriate oil as specified in the manual.
Blade Inspection
Inspect the mower blade for any signs of damage, such as chips or dullness. A sharp blade cuts grass cleanly and reduces stress on the engine. If the blade is dull, it can be sharpened or replaced.
Safety Features
Ensure all safety features, like the dead – man switch, are working properly. This switch stops the blade when the operator releases it, preventing accidents.
Operating the Lawn Mower
Starting the Mower
Follow the starting instructions in the manual. Usually, it involves setting the choke, priming the engine (if required), and pulling the starter cord. Once the engine starts, let it warm up for a few minutes.
Mowing Patterns
Use a consistent mowing pattern, such as parallel rows or a checkerboard pattern. This ensures an even cut and prevents missed spots. Avoid making sharp turns while the blade is spinning to prevent damage to the mower and the lawn.
Cutting Height
Adjust the cutting height according to the type of grass and the season. Generally, it’s better not to cut more than one – third of the grass blade length at a time. This promotes healthy grass growth.
Post – operation Care
Cleaning
After mowing, turn off the engine and let it cool down. Then, clean the mower deck to remove grass clippings, dirt, and debris. This helps prevent rust and keeps the mower in good condition.
Storage
If you’re not going to use the mower for a while, store it in a dry place. Drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation.
