Introduction
Chinese-made lawn mowers have gained popularity worldwide for their reliability, efficiency, and affordability. To make the most of your lawn mower and ensure a well – manicured lawn, here are some essential operating tips.
Pre – operation Checks
Fuel and Oil
Before starting your lawn mower, check the fuel level. Use the recommended fuel type for your specific model. Also, check the oil level. Low oil can cause engine damage. If the oil is low, refill it with the appropriate oil grade as stated in the user manual.
Blades
Inspect the blades for sharpness and damage. Dull or damaged blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly, leading to a ragged appearance and potential lawn diseases. Sharpen or replace the blades regularly.
Deck and Wheels
Look at the mower deck for any debris or blockages. Clean it if necessary. Check the wheels for proper inflation and smooth movement. Loose or wobbly wheels can affect the mower’s stability and cutting performance.
Operating the Lawn Mower
Starting
Follow the correct starting procedure as described in the manual. Usually, this involves setting the choke, pulling the starter cord (for manual start models), or turning the ignition key (for electric start models).
Cutting Height
Adjust the cutting height according to the type of grass and the season. In general, it’s better to cut the grass a bit longer in the summer to help it retain moisture. Avoid cutting more than one – third of the grass blade length at a time.
Mowing Pattern
Change your mowing pattern regularly. This prevents the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes even growth. You can mow in rows, diagonals, or in a circular pattern.
Post – operation Care
Shutting Down
Once you’ve finished mowing, turn off the engine following the proper shutdown procedure. This may involve moving the throttle to the idle position and then turning off the ignition.
Cleaning
After each use, clean the mower. Remove grass clippings from the deck, blades, and wheels. This helps prevent rust and keeps the mower in good working condition.
Storage
Store the lawn mower in a dry, protected place. If you’re not going to use it for an extended period, drain the fuel and oil to prevent damage to the engine.
