Pre – operation Checks
Before starting your lawn mower, it’s crucial to conduct a series of checks. First, check the fuel level. A sufficient amount of fuel ensures continuous operation. Also, examine the oil level; proper lubrication is key to the engine’s smooth running. Inspect the cutting blades for any signs of damage or dullness. Dull blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly, leading to an uneven lawn appearance.
Safe Starting
When starting the lawn mower, make sure it is on a flat and stable surface. For electric lawn mowers, ensure the power cord is in good condition and properly plugged in. For gas – powered ones, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for priming and pulling the starter cord. Never start the mower in an enclosed space as it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Operation Techniques
During operation, walk at a steady pace. Avoid rushing, as this can result in an uneven cut. Overlap each pass slightly to ensure no grass is missed. Adjust the cutting height according to the grass type and the desired lawn length. Taller grass should be cut gradually to avoid stressing the grass. If the grass is wet, it’s best to wait until it dries, as wet grass can clog the mower and make the operation more difficult.
Post – operation Maintenance
After finishing mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. Empty the grass catcher to prevent mold growth. Clean the underside of the mower deck to remove grass clippings and debris. Sharpen or replace the blades regularly to maintain a clean cut. Store the mower in a dry and secure place to protect it from the elements.
