Lawn mowers are essential tools for maintaining a beautiful yard. Here are some valuable operating tips to help you get the most out of your lawn mower.

Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, always check the fuel level. Ensure there is enough gasoline or charge if it’s an electric mower. Also, inspect the oil level in a gas – powered mower. A low oil level can cause serious engine damage. Check the blade for any signs of wear or damage. A sharp blade cuts grass cleanly, reducing stress on the engine and giving your lawn a healthier appearance.

Proper Mowing Technique

Adjust the cutting height according to the type of grass and its growth stage. For most grass types, a height of 2 – 3 inches is ideal. Mow in different directions each time you mow the lawn. This helps prevent the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes more even growth. Avoid mowing wet grass as it can clog the mower and result in an uneven cut.

Maintenance During Use

If you notice the mower is becoming less efficient or the cut is uneven, stop and clean the underside of the deck. Grass clippings can build up and affect the mower’s performance. Also, listen for any unusual noises from the engine. Unusual rattles or vibrations may indicate a problem that needs to be addressed immediately.

Post – operation Care

After mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. If it’s a gas – powered mower, empty the remaining fuel if you won’t be using it for an extended period. Clean the entire mower, including the blade, deck, and air filter. Store the mower in a dry and secure place to prevent rust and damage.
