Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, conduct a thorough pre – operation check. First, check the oil level. Just like a car, a lawn mower needs proper lubrication. A low oil level can cause engine damage. Next, examine the air filter. A clogged air filter restricts air flow, reducing the mower’s performance. You can clean or replace it as needed. Also, inspect the spark plug. A worn – out spark plug can lead to starting problems.

Correct Mowing Techniques

When mowing, it’s important to choose the right height. Don’t cut the grass too short, as this can stress the grass and make it more vulnerable to diseases. A general rule is to never cut more than one – third of the grass blade at a time. Additionally, mow in different directions each time. This helps the grass grow upright and evenly, and it also prevents soil compaction.

Maintenance During Use

During mowing, keep an eye on the mower’s performance. If you notice the mower is struggling or the grass isn’t being cut cleanly, it might be time to sharpen the blades. Dull blades tear the grass instead of cutting it, which can lead to a brown and ragged appearance. Also, empty the grass catcher regularly. A full catcher can block the discharge chute and affect the mower’s operation.

Post – operation Care

After finishing mowing, let the mower cool down before storing it. Clean the mower thoroughly to remove grass clippings, dirt, and debris. This prevents corrosion and keeps the mower in good working condition. Store the mower in a dry place, away from moisture and extreme temperatures.
