Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, conduct a thorough inspection. Check the oil level and ensure it is at the appropriate mark. Low oil can cause engine damage. Also, examine the fuel tank. Use clean and fresh fuel to keep the engine running smoothly. Inspect the blades for sharpness and any signs of damage. Dull or damaged blades can lead to an uneven cut and stress the engine.

Safe Starting

Place the lawn mower on a flat, stable surface. Make sure the mower is in neutral or the blade – engaged switch is off. Pull the starter cord slowly until you feel resistance, then give it a quick, firm pull. Avoid yanking the cord too hard as it can break. For electric mowers, plug them in securely, and ensure the power cord is clear of the mowing area.

Mowing Techniques

When mowing, walk at a steady pace. Do not rush, as it can result in an uneven cut. Vary your mowing pattern each time. This helps prevent the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes a healthier lawn. Keep the mower level to ensure an even cut across the entire lawn. Also, avoid mowing wet grass, as it can clog the mower and make the cut less clean.

Post – operation Care

After mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. Remove any grass clippings from the mower deck and blades. This helps prevent rust and keeps the mower in good working condition. Store the mower in a dry place. If it’s a gasoline – powered mower, consider draining the fuel if it will be stored for an extended period.
