Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, it’s essential to conduct a few checks. First, check the oil level. Low oil can damage the engine. Chinese manufacturers often provide clear indicators on the oil tank. Also, inspect the air filter. A dirty air filter can reduce the mower’s performance. Replace it if it’s too dirty. Finally, check the blades. Make sure they are sharp and not damaged. Dull blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly.

Starting the Mower

Most Chinese – made lawn mowers have a straightforward starting procedure. Prime the engine if required, usually by pressing a primer bulb a few times. Then, set the choke according to the engine’s temperature. For a cold start, set it to the ‘Choke’ position, and switch it to ‘Run’ once the engine warms up. Pull the starter cord firmly and steadily. If the mower has an electric start, simply press the start button.

Mowing Techniques

When mowing, adjust the cutting height according to the grass type and its growth. For most common grasses, a medium – height setting is ideal. Mow in a straight line for a neat appearance. Overlap each pass slightly to ensure all the grass is cut evenly. Don’t mow wet grass as it can clog the mower and make the blades rust faster.

Maintenance During Operation

While mowing, keep an eye on the mower’s performance. If you notice any strange noises or vibrations, stop the mower immediately and check for problems. Also, clean the underside of the mower deck regularly. Grass clippings can accumulate and affect the mower’s efficiency.

Post – operation Care

After mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. Empty the grass collection bag. Clean the entire mower, including the blades and the deck, with a brush or a hose.
