Chinese – made lawn mowers are renowned for their quality and performance. Here are some useful operating tips to ensure you get the most out of your lawn mower.
Pre – operation Checks
Before starting your lawn mower, it’s crucial to conduct a thorough inspection. Check the oil level; if it’s low, refill it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, examine the air filter. A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance. Replace it if necessary. And don’t forget to check the blade for sharpness and any signs of damage. A dull or damaged blade won’t cut grass effectively and can even harm your lawn.
Starting the Lawn Mower
For a smooth start, follow the correct procedure. First, make sure the mower is on a flat and stable surface. Prime the engine if required, usually by pressing the primer bulb a few times. Then, set the choke according to the engine temperature. If it’s cold, set the choke to the “closed” position. Once the engine starts, gradually open the choke. Pull the starter cord firmly and steadily to start the engine.
Mowing Techniques
When mowing, maintain a consistent speed. Don’t rush, as it can lead to uneven cuts. Overlap each pass slightly to ensure you don’t miss any patches of grass. Vary your mowing pattern each time you mow. This helps prevent soil compaction and keeps your lawn looking healthy. Adjust the cutting height according to the grass type and the season. In the summer, it’s often better to keep the grass a bit longer to protect the roots from heat.
Post – operation Maintenance
After you finish mowing, turn off the engine and let it cool down. Empty the grass catcher to prevent mold growth. Clean the underside of the mower deck to remove grass clippings and debris, which can cause corrosion. Store the lawn mower in a dry place, and if it’s going to be stored for an extended period, drain the fuel to prevent fuel system problems.
