Introduction

Lawn mowers are essential tools for maintaining a beautiful and well – groomed lawn. However, to ensure optimal performance and longevity, it’s crucial to operate them correctly. Here are some valuable operating tips for lawn mowers.

Pre – operation Checks

Fuel and Oil: Before starting the lawn mower, check the fuel level. Make sure you use the correct type of fuel as specified in the user manual. Also, check the oil level. Low oil can cause serious engine damage.

Blades: Inspect the blades for sharpness and damage. Dull or damaged blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly, leading to an uneven and unhealthy lawn. If needed, sharpen or replace the blades.

Air Filter: A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance. Clean or replace the air filter regularly to ensure proper air intake for the engine.

Operating the Lawn Mower

Starting: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for starting the lawn mower. Usually, it involves setting the choke, pulling the starter cord, and then adjusting the throttle.

Mowing Pattern: Vary your mowing pattern each time you mow. This helps prevent the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes more even growth. For example, you can mow in a horizontal pattern one time and a vertical pattern the next.

Speed: Don’t rush while mowing. Walk at a steady pace. Mowing too fast can result in an uneven cut and put extra stress on the lawn mower engine.

Post – operation Care

Cleaning: After mowing, clean the lawn mower. Remove grass clippings from the deck, blades, and undercarriage. This prevents rust and keeps the mower in good working condition.

Storage: Store the lawn mower in a dry and protected place. If you won’t be using it for an extended period, drain the fuel and oil to prevent corrosion and damage to the engine.
