Introduction

Lawn mowers are essential tools for maintaining a beautiful lawn. However, to ensure optimal performance and longevity, it’s important to operate them correctly. Here are some useful operating tips for lawn mowers.

Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, conduct a thorough inspection. First, check the fuel level. Running out of fuel during mowing can damage the engine. Also, examine the oil level. Low oil can cause overheating and engine wear. Inspect the blades for sharpness and any signs of damage. Dull or damaged blades won’t cut grass effectively and can tear it instead.

Mowing Techniques

When mowing, avoid cutting more than one – third of the grass blade length at a time. Cutting too much can stress the grass and make it more susceptible to diseases. Vary your mowing pattern each time. This helps prevent the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes more even growth. Additionally, mow at a steady pace. Rushing can lead to uneven cuts.

Maintenance During Operation

Keep an eye on the mower’s performance while in use. If you notice any strange noises or vibrations, stop the mower immediately. These could be signs of a problem. Also, clean the underside of the mower deck regularly. Grass clippings can build up and block the airflow, affecting the mower’s performance.

Post – operation Care

After mowing, let the mower cool down before storing it. Empty any remaining fuel if you don’t plan to use the mower for an extended period. Sharpen the blades regularly to ensure a clean cut next time. And store the mower in a dry, protected place to prevent rust and other damage.
