Introduction

Lawn mowers are essential tools for maintaining a beautiful lawn. However, to get the best results and ensure the longevity of your mower, it’s important to operate it correctly. Here are some valuable operating tips.

Pre – operation Checks

Before starting your lawn mower, conduct a thorough inspection. Check the oil level. If it’s low, add the recommended oil. Inspect the air filter; a dirty filter can reduce engine performance. Also, examine the spark plug and replace it if it’s worn out. Ensure the cutting blades are sharp and properly attached. Dull blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly.

Proper Mowing Techniques

When mowing, avoid cutting more than one – third of the grass blade length at a time. This helps the grass stay healthy and grow back stronger. Vary your mowing pattern each time you mow. This prevents the grass from leaning in one direction and promotes even growth. Walk at a steady pace while mowing to ensure an even cut.

Maintenance During Operation

If you encounter thick or wet grass, it may be necessary to make multiple passes instead of trying to cut it all at once. This reduces the strain on the mower’s engine. Regularly empty the grass catcher. A full catcher can impede the mower’s performance and cause clumping of grass.

Post – operation Care

After mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. Clean the mower thoroughly, removing any grass clippings and debris from the deck and undercarriage. Store the mower in a dry place, protected from the elements. If you’re not going to use the mower for an extended period, drain the fuel to prevent it from going stale.
