Introduction
Lawn mowers are essential tools for maintaining a beautiful lawn. However, proper operation is crucial to ensure safety and efficiency. Here are some valuable operating tips for lawn mowers.
Pre – operation Checks
Before starting the lawn mower, conduct a thorough inspection. Check the fuel level and ensure there are no leaks. Examine the oil level if it’s a gas – powered mower. Also, inspect the blades for any damage or dullness. Dull blades can tear the grass instead of cutting it cleanly, which is bad for the lawn’s health.
Proper Mowing Patterns
Changing your mowing pattern regularly is important. Mowing in the same direction every time can cause the grass to lean in one direction and create ruts in the lawn. Alternate between horizontal, vertical, and diagonal patterns to keep the grass standing upright and promote even growth.
Height Adjustment
Set the appropriate cutting height for your grass type. Generally, it’s better not to cut more than one – third of the grass blade’s length at a time. Cutting too short can stress the grass, making it more susceptible to diseases and drought.
During Operation
When operating the lawn mower, walk at a steady pace. Avoid running or rushing, as this can lead to uneven cuts. Also, be aware of any obstacles in the lawn, such as rocks, toys, or tree roots, and remove them before mowing to prevent damage to the mower and potential injury.
Post – operation Maintenance
After mowing, turn off the mower and let it cool down. Empty the grass catcher if it has one. Clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent grass buildup, which can affect the mower’s performance. Sharpen or replace the blades regularly to ensure a clean cut.
